Does a room-air-cleaner rating apply at the fan speed customers normally use?

A clean air delivery rate is a rating of a portable room air cleaner as a whole appliance, measured under ANSI/AHAM AC-1, the standard for portable household electric room air cleaners. It describes the appliance at the setting used in that test, and that setting is stated with the rating. The company's ratings are filter ratings. MERV is the minimum efficiency reporting value under ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 52.2. It is built from the lowest efficiencies the filter reaches in each particle size range as dust is loaded during the test, not from a single reading on a clean filter. An ISO 16890 class rates a filter against a particle fraction, ePM1, ePM2.5 or ePM10, and the class the filter holds is the one the certificate states. Where a partner builds the filter into an appliance, that appliance and any rating it holds are the partner's.
