Changing the filter means switching the system off at the thermostat or at the unit’s disconnect, and following the label's caution for the used filter.

How long a system can be off is decided by the people who run it.

The label’s directions are: “Switch the system off at the thermostat or at the unit’s disconnect before opening the filter access.” Then the used filter is removed and discarded as directed under storage and disposal, the new filter is fitted into the filter track with the airflow arrow pointing toward the blower, the fit is checked square in the track with no gap at the frame, the access panel is closed and the system is switched back on. The label adds: “Do not run the system with no filter in the track.”
