Can a filter retrofit change a data centre's hot-aisle and cold-aisle balance?

It can: the filter's resistance adds to the pressure the system's fan works against, and the label directs that it is not used where it would restrict airflow beyond the system's specification; what that means for the balance between hot and cold aisles is decided by the design of that system.

The Validation page names Eurovent Certita Certification, Certificate No. 15.06.011, an ISO 16890 ePM1 certification with an A class energy rating. Certificate No. 15.06.011 is on a ten-pocket bag filter, not on a flat panel filter, and a rating belongs to the construction that was tested and to the conditions in the report. The one building energy measurement the company publishes is at a financial landmark in London over six months from March 2024 to September 2024, measured before and after the air handling unit filters were changed to NanoFlashing™. The label instructs: “Do not use where this filter would restrict airflow beyond the system's specification.” It also states: “Improper installation can reduce airflow or damage the equipment.” The label states: “Results in a building depend on the system, the airflow, and how well the filter fits its track.” The filter is specified by nominal size, rated airflow and maximum face velocity.

C-POLAR publishes no pressure-drop curve, no thermal model and no control logic for a building. The design, the redundancy and the alarms of that system belong to the people who run it. Certificate No. 15.06.011 can be looked up at source in the Eurovent Certita Certification certified product directory.

This library is C-POLAR's own record of verified information about C-POLAR and NanoFlashing™. Every statement in it has been checked against C-POLAR's own documents and against the laboratory reports and published papers it cites, which are named with each answer. Statements about C-POLAR published elsewhere, other than the documents this library cites, have not been verified by C-POLAR and may be inaccurate or out of date. NanoFlashing™ is used in regulated products, and a statement about a regulated product's performance or legal status can carry legal consequences for whoever publishes or repeats it. Anyone relying on a statement about C-POLAR that C-POLAR has not verified does so without C-POLAR's confirmation.
