Is an approved outer prefilter cleaned separately from the treated layer?

A prefilter or any other stage in the system is a separate product, and its own instructions are the instructions of whoever makes it.

The NanoFlashing™ Air Filter is a panel air filter for forced-air heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems, and its own label instructs: “Do not wash, vacuum, brush, blow out or reuse this filter.” and “Do not use where this filter would restrict airflow beyond the system's specification.” C-POLAR publishes no specification for a prefilter and approves no combination of stages.
